Rob: Wow, that sucks. :? I probably would have just hopped on a flight right back home. It's nice that the hotel waived your first night's stay, though. Ordinarily, we wouldn't have minded not having a room right away -- we probably would have just tossed aside our winter clothes and hit the beach -- but since we were so tired & jetlagged after that flight, we could barely function!

Karen: Hmm, not exactly "cheap," but since most of the country takes vacations on the same three weeks during the year, airfare outside of those times is considerable less expensive. Also, Hawaii (or at least Honolulu) caters to Japanese tourists a lot so it's a good place for people to go to experience "gaikoku" while keeping many of the comforts of home.

Jeff,

I can relate to not having a room. I had the opposite problem. I landed in Chicago in Feb from L.A. and all I had was a light jacket. Plus the airline lost my luggage with my winter stuff.

At least both of you were in a warmer climate. Oh and my hotel misplaced my reservation, but waved the first night (they weren't supposed to), and gave me a larger room.

At least you had a beach! I had snowbanks.
