I probably would have just hopped on a flight right back home. It's nice that the hotel waived your first night's stay, though. Ordinarily, we wouldn't have minded not having a room right away -- we probably would have just tossed aside our winter clothes and hit the beach -- but since we were so tired & jetlagged after that flight, we could barely function! Karen: Hmm, not exactly "cheap," but since most of the country takes vacations on the same three weeks during the year, airfare outside of those times is considerable less expensive. Also, Hawaii (or at least Honolulu) caters to Japanese tourists a lot so it's a good place for people to go to experience "gaikoku" while keeping many of the comforts of home.
